Canterbury College Senior School Academic programs are designed to provide all students with the best possible foundations to equip them for a life after school.

All programs focus on the development of twenty-first century skills with the aim of creating innovative, entrepreneurial, lifelong learners who are responsible citizens. Whether students choose an academic pathway leading to tertiary study or a vocational pathway leading to work, they are encouraged to achieve their personal, social and educational goals through a program of supportive and thorough academic mentoring.

Senior Education and Training Plan (SET Plan) interviews occur mid-year in Year 10 and ensure that students undertake appropriate courses of study. The Senior School offers a diverse range of subjects, both traditional academic subjects and Vocational Education courses that allow students to tailor programs of study to meet their specific needs.

Wellbeing Program
 

All students participate in the wellbeing program offered at the College.

Year 10 undertake a detailed program of “Focused on Success” which includes work experience, entrepreneurship, and Senior Education and Training (SET) planning. During Year 11 students complete a program “The Leadership Journey Begins” designed to educate the young people on leadership and mentoring skills.In their final year students in Year 12 experience the “Prepared and Stronger” program — this program has a focus on mindfulness, management strategies and preparing for life beyond secondary schooling.

All of these programs reflect the College’s mission statement to prepare people in an inclusive learning community to deal effectively and responsibly with the joys and challenges of their individual lives.

Senior students at Canterbury College are supported to take on leadership responsibilities within the student community.

These responsibilities include:

• being a positive role model for their peers and the younger students of the College

• playing a leading role in ensuring that Canterbury College is a pleasant and safe

environment for all staff and students

• engaging in and promoting the College Values

• maintaining a positive tone in the College

• being an active participant in Year 12 Committees and providing avenues for all students to have a voice

VET Program

​

Canterbury Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathway at Canterbury College is constantly evolving to meet the industry requirements and to allow students as many opportunities within the broader educational network in Australia as possible.

Students who chose a Vocational Education pathway, have a wide variety of courses to select from. As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), Canterbury College offers many courses out of its Trade Training Centre. Students can also study many Certificate courses through external providers.

Senior School students can undertake School-based Apprenticeships, Traineeships, complete Certificate and Diploma courses and work placements as well as work experience. School-based Traineeships and Apprenticeships allow students to work for an employer and train towards a recognised qualification, while completing secondary school.
