University of Oxford 
Robotics Summer Camp

13-15 / 16-18 years old

Introduction & Fees

  • A Robotics summer course designed to give students a practical, hands-on head-start in the field of Robotics - a discipline that is as important as it is exciting

  • Introduce students to the ever-expanding field of Robotics, exploring the science and engineering behind the development of modern robots

  • Robotics skills taught include moving, turning, line detection, line following and obstacle avoidance, ensuring students are well-equipped for future study in the discipline.

  • Suitable for students between 13-15 years old (Introduction to Robotics),

  • 16-18 years old (Advanced Robotics Programme)

  • Time: 2 weeks, 2019 dates:

7th July - 20th July 2019,
21st July - 3rd Aug 2019,
4th Aug - 17th Aug 2019

18th Aug - 31st Aug 2019 (full)

Fee: $26500HKD/week, including:

  • 20+ hours minimum tuition / week

  • Afternoon extracurricular activities and workshops

  • night time team games

  • 1 day of excursions

  • School boarding and 3 meals

  • Transportation and pick up to and from Heathrow airport on Sundays

  • School books and study materials

$500 HKD application fee for:

  • Completion of all registration forms ​required by the University of Oxford 

  • Completion of all forms required by the government of home and host country (additional fees as per home country for issuance of UK visa if your passport carrying country is not visa fee)

  • Issuance of school letter, enrollment letter, place of accommodation letter, and confirmation of care of minor letter in the United Kingdom as required by the Immigration of the United Kingdom

  • Forge friendships with like-minded and academically motivated young people interested in the same field

  • Formal end of summer graduation party

  • Boarding school with 24 hours live-in staff supervision

  • Accommodated in comfortable single or twin rooms of same gender

  • Dedicated team of program directors and counsellors to ensure that students are looked after pastorally, culturally and socially during their programme 24 hours a day

Tuition & Activities

  • 20+ hours tuition per week

  • Maximum 10 students per class

  • Students will learn in classes of no more than 10 students and will be led by a teacher with a wealth of experience in the field of robotics

  • Practical hands on workshop and training, and site visits for real life experiences

  • To further enhance the abroad experience, guest lecturers from different fields of specialization will share and speak with students

  • Talks and debates with world-class guest speakers

    Arts - Charcoal sketching, Clay modelling, T-shirt design, Bag design
    Cultural - Postcard making, Origami, Decoupage design, Friendship bracelet

Introduction to Robotics

13-15 years old

(at Cambridge/Oxford)

Fundamental areas of robotics will be explored, including working with Raspberry Pi single board computers and learning how to use the Python programming language. The course will culminate with students programming robots to navigate a 3D maze, showcasing their impressive range of acquired skills throughout the programme.

Participants will be challenged to get their robots to complete a 3D maze, a "copy-cat" choreography challenge and a robot car race. These practical activities are intended to not only keep our students motivated and amused but to also ensure high levels of engagement with the material.

By the end of this course, students will have:

  • Learned and worked with Raspberry Pi single board computers

  • Used Python programming language

  • Debated over ‘self-driving’ cars

  • Programmed robots to navigate a 3D maze

Advanced Robotics Programme

16-18 years old

(at Oxford)

The course takes a hands-on approach to introduce the basic concepts of the construction and programming of autonomous, mobile robots, which will become increasingly complex as the course progresses. There will be several challenges in class to test the abilities of the robots being studied, with a final contest to end the course.

This two-week program introduces students to Arduino robot kits and Arduino programming, including C++, of which no previous knowledge is required. We start with an introduction to key engineering concepts followed by an introduction to the Arduino environment. Students then progress to study how robots navigate through their environment, exploring an assortment of sensors and factors including motion, distance, acceleration, sound, and light sensors. They will also learn how robots detect obstacles and avoid them, how they use control motors to achieve different types of motion, and how they can be programmed to follow certain patterns and avoid others.

At the end of the course, students will study how to programme data onto an SD card to be read by their robot. We conclude the course with a challenging test of the abilities of the robots produced by the students.
